During the global pandemic of 2020, the collective mental health of the UK population suffered. 3.2 million families felt that adding a puppy to their family would have a positive impact on their lives.
But at what cost?
During the “lockdown puppy” boom, there were an untold number of reports of puppies being inhumanely bred, breeders being attacked and their beloved dogs being stolen, and families losing their savings to scammers.

These horrific tales kickstarted Pet Trust UK.
During the lockdown, a friend of mine was attacked at knifepoint. Her dogs and puppies were stolen from her home after a meet and greet with an alleged prospective family. Sadly, she wasn’t the only one, and reports of attacks were rising.
My family and I knew that no platform supported breeders and prospective dog owners to make connections safely.
Prospective owners are buying dogs online with no way of checking the breeder's credibility, health certificates and breeding practices. They were entrusting their fortunes without knowing if there was even a real puppy waiting for them. Or they’re falling in love and finding their puppy cruelly ripped from them six months later due to poor breeding and hidden health conditions.
Well-intentioned people want to open their hearts and homes to a puppy but don’t know who to trust.
Breeders are also at risk, with no checks to ensure prospective owners are who they say they are. The next potential buyer could be the one holding a gun and stealing your beloved fur babies.

How do we keep our members safe?
All members undergo bank-level ID verification, reducing the threat of fraud and theft for both breeders and pet parents. We only allow responsible, registered breeders who conform to our high welfare standards. Registered breeders must provide their council or Kennel Club registration and breed standard health checks. These checks help ensure that only genuine breeders are registered and only healthy, happy puppies are listed.
How do you prevent puppy farms/unethical breeders from registering?
The welfare of pets is at the heart of everything we do, and we have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to puppy farming. Verification of registration and breed standard screening prevents inhumane breeders from registering and enables the dog breeding industry to begin self-regulating. How do you keep breeders safe with buyer verification?
